Well the first session of summer school has now come to an end. I'm really excited that I know more about current internet applications then my boyfriend who is the computer tech. I have really enjoyed my time in KIN710. Now all I have to do is remember all of user names, passwords and accounts that I now have. This class was very valuable to me. Look out for my new blog which just be a free for all on all my thoughts and lifes happenings. Take care KIN 710

Early this morning I created a Library Thing account. This was pretty interesting. I like how it's so easy to use. The site doesn't get all in your business when you create an account. For the avid book reader this site would be a great tool to post reviews, see what you want to read next and chat with people who enjoy the same authors. I just wanted to have fun with some of the books I've added to my library. If you want check it out. I also put a link on this page to show you some of my books I've added so far. Well here is my library info...http://www.librarything.com/catalog/JThreat

Well I made this puzzle piece image of myself using http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/. This site was cool. You can manipulate an image of choosing using all sorts of templates. This tool would be a great gift to give someone a spiced up image. I suggest anyone try it and have fun. One of the great things about this site is you can link the site to your flickr account so once you are done with your image it will go straight to your online photo studio. So jump to it and have loads of fun!!!

Technorati

Technorati.com is pretty useful site when it comes to searching blogs. Lately i've been looking for peoples takes on graphic arts. I found a couple of blogs on that which were helpful. I was excited to see how easy it was to find my blog as well as my bestfriends fashion blog. I don't know how often I would use this site but I wll add it to my del.ici.ous.com account.

Another hidden Internet Jewel

I have fallen in love with del.icio.us.com. This site is amazing. I hate when cache is cleared and I can't remeber what site i'm looking for. I love how its electronic so where ever there is a computer I can utilize the site. The hardest thing for me is remembering where all these darn periods will go. For those of you don't know del.icio.us.com is a tagging social networking site where you can store links to certain websites you may have stumbled on. This site can be useful in every setting.

Podcasting. ummmm

I never really used podcast becaue I figured when would I use them. I also thought that they only would work on an MP3 Player and I didn't want to usee that storage space. Well after exploring a site called podcast.com I found many more uses for this feature. I found a couple sports medicine and exercise podcast. I put a rss feed to my google reader so I can stay in the know with all the happenings.
Youtube has a lot to offer. I can see this being used in a class setting just like how it is for Kin 710. I decided to post this video because it is of my God Sister. Can you guess which one she is.

In reading a couple of my classmates blogs it appears that a few people had problems with posting their google doc to their blog so I created a step by step check list for this process.

1. After completing your google doc make sure you save it.

2. On the top right of you page there is a tab labeled share

3. Click on share

4. Click publish as web page

5. Click post to blog

6. Use the scroll down menu to select your proper blog site

7. Sign in

8. Post to blog (you don't have to do a test)

9. Check your blog to see if your post is there.

Hope this helps. By the way I created this doc using google docs.

I have been using the Google Docs spread sheets for work for the past couple of months. Just recently on one of my time sheets I forgot to select am over pm and thus I worked 12 more hours then what I actually did. My boss saw this error and was able to fix it and send my time sheet back to me via google docs.

I like Google Docs and I'm like many who wish I could have thought twice about buying the expensive Microsoft office package when I only really use three of the features (word, excel and PowerPoint). It will be interesting to see in the next few years how google docs will be used in the work place and everyday life.

Web 2.0 Sites and Features

I found a couple of sites that had some interesting content. My best friends and I are on this accountability journey, where we are each holding each other accountable for doing little task every week to help push us to our short and long time goals. The web site 43things.com allows you to list your goals, record your progress and cheer or encourage other people on their progress. I can use this tool in my everyday life, work and personal.

Another site that I found was yourminis.com which is a site where you can find widgets to put on your blog, facebook, myspace, personal web page or any other social networking site. I have really grown fond of widgets because it makes your site a lot more interesting to look at.

The last site that I found useful was nomao.com which gives information to other users of good places to eat, shop, visit, party and a host of other things that may interest someone.

Google Reader/Bloglines

Last night I realized that Google Reader and Bloglines is the same thing. Of course I realized this after I created a bloglines account. I figured it would be easier to add some of my classmates blogs and different new feeds into google reader instead of bloglines since I already have a google account that I use for my e-mail and blog. There is also a link on the blogger dashboard to connect to google reader. I posted an earlier blog that I usually have problems finding things to look at on the Internet but now I'm finding things that interest me and it's great because I can put everything in one place. It's like one stop shopping.

I really enjoy the different technologies that I have learned thus far. I really like my google reader. I found some health and fitness articles that I could add as feeds and get updates on new information. I don't know how I'm going to use my twitter account in regards to my career at this moment. I don't plan to add to twitter to my phone and before taking KIN 710 I wasn't on the computer that much. We shall see as time goes on but at this moment I love how Internet savvy I'm becoming.

Kin 710 Myspace corrections

Social networking is the reality TV of the Internet. In other words it's everywhere. I have been a member of Myspace and Facebook for a few years now and it's interesting looking back seeing how much these two sites have changed and emerged in the past few years. I was disappointed in the articles mentioning of Myspace's lack of security. This article was written in Feb. of 2008 and had lot's of misinformation. The article states "A MySpace member’s page has its own URL, and anyone can view the page. An Internet user does not even need to be a MySpace member to browse the websites and view members’ pages. Few privacy settings are available to determine who can or can’t see pages." Here is the truth, yes Myspace members have their own URL but no anyone can not view their page. It is true that you can view other Myspacers pages without being a member that is also true for blogger.com, flickr and facebook. There are three privacy settings, you can show your page to anyone, show your page to your friends only or restrict certain content on your page like pictures, friends and comments. So for anyone who thought that myspace was a tell tell book it can be but then again it doesn't have to be.

Kin 710 Article Reflections

After reading three different articles regarding social networking, emerging technologies and web 2.0, I sat in amazement for a while thinking how far technology has come. I realized that I was growing accustomed to the all the current updates as they came but not realizing that things were changing. The only thing that I worried myself with was how fast my Internet connection was. I really enjoyed reading about all the changes that has happened in the past few years.

Web 2.0 is interesting. I didn't even know that it existed. I like how libraries are trying to attract teens to use the library services. The library using gaming systems is something that has to grow on me but the use of the other services of getting teens in and getting their input through service creation in evaluation is an awesome tool and life lesson teens will receive.

The article on emerging technologies was interesting to me. I had no idea what RSS stood for or meant, what wikis are and the many uses of blogs. I would have never thought that a library would use a blog but reading about the many things that could be put on a blog for the library made since to me. It makes it easier to keep their home website clean and concise but gives your the opportunity to find answers to questions that really don't need to be advertised on a library's main homepage. I thought the idea was great.

Kin 710 Wii Fit

I'm addicted to watching the Today show. I don't know what I would do if I had to work days because I feel like my day can't start unless I see my friendly Today Show faces. Anyway.... This morning they were showcasing the Nintendo's Wii new workout game. So I don't know how I feel about the game. I thought there was going to be more to it. I was looking at it to more relate to an older crowd but I guess this is Nintendo we are talking about so there shouldn't be a surprise when there is a hula hoop workout. I'm not quite sure how well this game is going to do but maybe it will need to grown on me or maybe I will have to play it.

Kin 710 Surfing the Net

As much as I hate receiving peoples request to join this social group and that social group why is it that I join. I also have never understood how can people surf online all day. My boyfriend spends as least 6 hours a day on the internet and I always try to figure out what is he looking for. I'm actually excited about blogging and adding twitter to my facebook and blog because I feel that it gives me something else to do after I look at all three of my e-mails.

Kin 710 Queens Stair Case the Bahamas

So I used Flickr to create this photo blog. It was pretty easy to use. This Picture was taken at The Queens Stair Case in the City of Nassau in The Bahamas. This landmark was built by slaves to protect the military against enemies. It's called the Queen's Stair Case to pay homage to the Queen of England for freeing the Slaves of the Bahamas. I went to the Bahamas this past Apirl to celebrate my 25th birthday. A nice vacation and great place to relax.

A Hardy Welcome to the Blogging World

Okay, so I never thought that I would ever be creating a blog. Here I am though excited about this new venture that I will be partaking in. I think about hundreds of random things a day and I have tons of stories about the different things that I see on a daily basis so hey why not share them here. Although this blog initially started as an assignment for school it won't surprise me if I'm here once a week pouring the latest rant, raves, drama, random questions and just personal thoughts.

Well here we go....
